Andrew was born on August 7, 1995 and is the son of David and Linda. He has two brothers, Josh and Jack. Andrew was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on May 28, 2000. He underwent 12 months of intensive chemotherapy, 10 sessions of cranial radiation and 2 years of maintenance chemotherapy. After 18 months of remission, he was diagnosed with a secondary cancer- Osteosarcoma- in the sinus cavity. This cancer is unrelated to the leukemia and was most likely caused by the cranial radiation. He had 5 months of intensive chemotherapy and 2 major surgeries. A month after surgery, Andrew continued with 2 more months of chemotherapy.
As of March 2006, his scans are clear and he will be rechecked in June of 2006. His mother and father love "his ability to roll with the punches and maintain the courage to meet the challenges he has had to face each and every day. He loves God and knows that he is going to take care of him in all the trials of his life. Despite all the years of fighting cancer that depleted his strength and flexibility, he had the courage to follow his dream of taking Tai Kwon Do. Even now, he wants to start up as soon as he is strong enough. He just want to be a kid and do what kids do: go to school, play, go camping, go swimming, just have fun."
