Hunter L

Hunter was born on February 15, 2004. He is the son of Sarah and the brother of Christopher, who is five. Hunter suffers from Cerebral Palsy, Complex Seizure Disorder, and Reactive Airway Disease.

Hunter is known for his smile, which his mother says “lights up his whole body, the whole room and everyone in it. He is such a love bug and so caring and funny and interested in everything.” His family is most inspired by Hunter when he emerges from his seizures, of which he has had 90 already in his short life. Medics rush to the house, struggle to insert an IV and a breathing tube, end up having to insert the IV directly into the bone in Hunter’s leg, then heavily tranquilize him. Eventually, when the seizure stops, Hunter wakes up and looks around as if nothing at all is wrong. “And the first thing he does,” his mother says, “is look for me. When we look at each other he doesn’t whine or cry or try to get things out of him. No…he looks at me and smiles. He reaches out and gives me a hug. And he gives you one of those smiles that tell you that he will be okay, and that this is his path.”

Hunter’s mom would like to thank the Epilepsy Foundation, Kindering Center, Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center for their support.
