in honor of Jonah

Jonah was born on December 2, 2006, and passed away on January 14, 2007. He had suffered strokes in utero that left him with severe brain damage and paralysis. He also had hypertension and a congenital diaphragmatic hernia. “When I think of Jonah,” his mother Becky writes, “the first thing that comes to mind is his fierce little spirit. He always seemed to have such a strong will to live life. He never let us or anybody else tell him what to do. He was so small, but his presence was so huge. Indeed, when Jonah was taken off life support, he left his doctors and nurses ‘scratching their heads’ over his continuing to live beyond that day. He was expected to die. Everyone was gathered around, crying and just waiting. Suddenly, it became obvious that he was not ready to go. That was the first time his father and I were able to hold our little guy. It couldn’t be explained…Jonah made us, his family, and everyone following his story, believe in miracles.”

Becky and Josh, Jonah’s parents, would like to thank Children’s Hospital for Jonah’s care. Their daughter Nora, born on October 16, 2007, is named after the nurse who was caring for Jonah on the day he died.
