“It may sound like a cliché,” says Sophia’s mother, “but Sophia is tough. She’s always been strong, determined, and resilient. She also has a smile that’s so pretty…but it can be a challenge just getting her to light up and smile.”
Sophia was born in 1999, and suffers from acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). She is the oldest of four children, one of whom is her twin sister. She was diagnosed on July 29, 2008.
“When she was going through treatment, her siblings would worry over her. Sophia would laugh out loud, saying, ‘I’m not going to die!’ She almost did, but never lost faith that she would be strong enough to overcome.” She has always been athletic, preferring most often to play games “with the boys.” Her mother admits, “this could very well be THE game in her young life, and we have no doubt that, as in the past, she will be victorious.”
Sophia now raises funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation, and supports the Rally Foundation (she is a Rally Kid), and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
