Starla H.

Starla was born on March 2, 2011, and struggled with FASD-static encephalopathy throughout her life. She passed away on September 17, 2021. “She struggled greatly in school and had trouble regulating her emotional state,” her great aunt/mother tells us. Yet “she overcame childhood apraxia and learned to speak, was a voracious reader and loved to write the story of ‘Frozen.’ She was extremely musical, with a clear, beautiful voice, and was learning to play the ukulele. Starla had a huge, loving heart, and gave her best to build her strengths.”

As Starla’s great aunt/mom struggles with her loss, “these pictures have given me a way to process the ending of her life, when that ending was steeped in shock.”
