On September 2, 2020, Vienna was just into her second day of first grade when she was diagnosed with leukemia. Vienna was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit at Seattle’s Children’s Hospital and put on dialysis. Since then she has undergone full-body radiation and a bone marrow transplant, followed by a posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome seizure and graft-versus-host disease. Now on maintenance chemo and other medication, Vienna is getting stronger ever day; at six months post-transplant, she is “a rock star” in her fight against her cancer.
“I am so impressed by Vienna’s bravery and strength during this cancer journey,” her mom says. “She has overcome so many hurdles with a positive and informed attitude.”
