← WAYS TO SUPPORT

A guide to fundraising for Soulumination

Check out fundamentals, tips, and resources for a successful and rewarding fundraiser.

Planning and goal setting

  • First, let's think about your goal and how long your campaign will be (Two weeks? A month? Three months?).

  • A goal of $1,000 is a great place to start, however if you have a specific goal in mind, use that. If you are fundraising through Facebook a higher goal is better as its algorithm will help you reach it.

  • Are you going to use Facebook/social media and email, or one or the other?

Using Facebook

  • You can host a fundraiser here https://www.facebook.com/fund/Soulumination/

  • The higher the goal, the more the Facebook algorithm shows it to people and helps you reach it.

  • Invite donors under 'Share.' Invite as many friends as possible, otherwise no one will know you're raising money.

  • Post your fundraiser and share it in your personal feed a couple times a week, important for visibility.

  • Make your fundraiser as personal as possible and share why you are raising money and the goal you’ve set.

  • Post updates. People respond well to updates on your progress. (For example, “We are halfway there at $500! Can you help me reach $750 by the end of the day?”)

Sending email

  • Personalize targeted emails to friends, family, and colleagues who you think will support you.

  • Keep potential donors engaged with short emails that explain your goal and why Soulumination is important to you.

  • Include the Facebook fundraiser link as well as the Soulumination direct donation link (below) for those who do not use Facebook.

  • Send a follow up email with an update on your progress. Most of the time donors need more than one touchpoint to give.

Adding incentives

  • Provide personal incentives to help reach your goal and keep things fun. (Such as, “I will bake cookies for anyone who donates $50 or more today.” Or “I will do one lap on the Howe Street stairs for every donation that comes in today.”

Thanking donors

  • Thank all donors. With Facebook notifications, saying thanks is easy.

  • Send written notes of thanks to people who donate through your email campaign.

Helpful resources

  • For emails, our donation link is https://www.soulumination.org/donate

  • If they put your name in the 'in honor of’ line, we will know how to attribute the donation.
